Who may do the work, and who has to sign off
Any Ocean County house eventually needs someone with a license. New Jersey makes it unlawful to install or alter regulated plumbing without a permit, keeps a short list of ordinary repairs outside that rule, and lets owners of single-family homes do their own work.
Wells, septic and plumbing each answer to a different license and a different office. These two stories set out which is which and what to ask. One gap is worth knowing from the start: as of January 2023 the state health department reports "no State regulations for water treatment professionals," so that purchase rests on your own questions. County, town and state offices each hold a piece of this, and the stories name them.
